Aaaaaaah. Tuck In.
I spent way too much time in here. Mainly Sunday afternoons - if you're that in need of a big fry up then the chances of being awake before noon on a Sunday are slim!
We tended to head there because it was open later than most places on a Sunday. And it was a chance for a feast! This is a proper British greasy spoon. Fry ups, loads of chips and all the basics, with the added bonus of some nice coffee. Just right I reckon. The portions are massive, the food is consistent and the service is swift. Not quite enough black pudding for my liking, but then there is never enough black pudding for my liking. And I do like my bacon a bit crispier - but it doesn't stop me eating it.
However, be warned if you're intolerant or fussy - they don't really like changing orders and swapping things. -

One star because it was not raining inside,
Cheap products, staff smoking outside the front in their uniform, swearing inside not just the customers ..... And the price v quality is shocking -

The Tuck In Café is a bit pricey in my estimations, especially for this part of town. It's double the price of the greasy spoons on St Mary's Road and Wood Street by the station, but probably only pays half the rent and business rates... besides which, I think they own the premises, as they have got another version of Tuck In Cafe
directly across the road... The full English breakfast is £4.50... about the price of a main meal at most of the take-aways on this stretch of road... Personally, if I'm going to eat a breakfast out, I'd rather cycle for another 5 minutes and go to the centre of town to the caffs by the station, and go and see the Fruit Man on Wood Street afterwards, to stock up on some great affordable fruit for next to nothing, to offset the damage I've done to my arteries! (Although there's a great fruit and veg shop just up the road from Tuck In Café... but this would leave me even more out of pocket!) -

Despite renovating its frontage from humble greasy spoon chic to something approaching a gaudy Chinese takeaway, Tuck In has built a name as one of the most reliable breakfast dispensers in Canton. Early opening hours bizarrely mean that far from providing hangover cures in bacon and egg shapes, it's actually possible to devour a meal before bed on the way home from a big night out. And that's arguably the best time to do so: after a few drinks you won't be so fussed that the Full English offered merely fills a hole, rather than doing so with any real quality.
